Zechariah 13:4-6
“When that day comes, each one of the prophets will be shamed by his vision when he prophesies. He will stop wearing a hair cloak to deceive people; and instead, he will say, ‘I’m no prophet, I just work the soil; since my youth I’ve only wanted to be an ordinary man.’ If someone asks him, ‘Then what are these gashes between your shoulders?’ he will answer, ‘I got hurt at my friends’ house.’”
There’s a song I put together a couple of years ago that seems to resonate more and more with every passing year. I say “put together” because it was G-d who spoke it through His servant, the prophet Zechariah over 2500 years ago. I didn’t come up with the words; I just heard this song in my spirit and wrote it out.
Because it’s in my spirit again, I figure I’d share it with you again, or for the first time depending on who you are. This features a dear, dear friend of mine, Natalie Hagwood, who didn’t even know she would be singing this with me until about 5 minutes before she got in the booth. To be honest, I didn’t even know either. I just knew it wasn’t supposed to just have my voice on it.
Please take a listen. I’ll even drop the lyrics for you below.
VERSE I
When that day comes
Each one of the prophets, they will be ashamed
When that day comes
All of the the false prophets will be put to shame
He will stop wearing a cloak to deceive
And instead, he will say
She will stop wearing a cloak to deceive
And instead, she will say
REFRAIN
“I am not a prophet
I just work the soil
I’ve only ever wanted to be
Ordinary”
“I am not a prophet
Pay no mind to me
These gashes on my shoulders
Are not what you think”
VERSE II
When that day comes
A fountain will be opened, for the house of David
When that day comes
A fountain will be opened, for Jerusalem
A fountain to cleanse all the people, from all impurities
A fountain to cleanse all the people, from all impurities
Cleanse them from their idols
And the spirit of B’laam
Wipe away the memory
Of the false gods
Cleanse them from the liars
The ones who lie on Adonai
Turn their very mothers and fathers
Against them
REFRAIN
And they’ll say “I am not a prophet
I just till the soil
I’ve only ever wanted to be
Ordinary”
“I am not a prophet
Pay no mind to me
These gashes on my shoulders
Are not what you think”
VERSE III
When that day comes
The nations will be gathered
In Jerusalem for war
When that day comes
The Lord will strike the nations, who came against his own
And those who remain will march up to Zion
To worship Adonai
And those who remain will march up to Zion
To worship Adonai…
