Almost 10 years ago, I had an idea for a concert in my city. I happen to stumble upon this incredible artist, and I thought “what the heck. I’ll reach out.” I asked her if she would come and sing her songs for us. I told her our budget was small, but that I would arrange her music for an orchestra that I put together for the concert.
Sadly, she could not make that concert, but we stayed in touch, and she was able to make it the following year.
We had an incredible time, and from there, she began to have me make more string arrangements for her. Fast forward to about four years ago, I get a call from this same incredible artist and now friend asking me if I would be interested in arranging a few songs for her and the Boston Pops.
Needless to say, I was interested.
Every so often, I have to look back on this, and I do with so much gratitude every single time. Definitely a bucket list project, and something I will hold in my heart for a long, long time.
You never know what comes from you stepping out.
The worst that can happen is that you get a “no.” And trust me, I get plenty of those.
But each “yes” makes it all worth it.
This is a clip of a standard “In the Wee Small Hours,” performed my none other than the absolutely stunning Aubrey Logan with the Boston Pops.
Step up. Speak out.
