The Intentional Detour
I’m on my way to Oakland to record the new EP. On my layover in Newark, I see a grand piano right in front of my gate, so I do what I would normally do… eat first (because I was bordering on hangry) and then hop on the piano to play.
I started off by playing a new original that I will be recording this weekend. I sang under my breath and played mainly to get more familiar with the song before taking it to the studio. Then, as I got more comfortable I started playing other tunes and singing a little bit louder.
In the middle of one of my songs, a young lady who worked at the airport approached me. At first, I thought she was going to tell me to get off or be quiet, but she did something very different. She first asked me if I believed in G-d. I told her I did, and then she proceeded to give me a really uplifting encouragement, quickly followed by a warning. I immediately knew both words she gave me were from Him, so my posture went from uncertainty to receiving.
What she told me is for me, so I will not share that here. What I will say however, is that our Heavenly Father certainly has a way of getting our attention.
At first I was annoyed that I had a layover in New Jersey, the opposite direction of my final destination. Now I understand why I had to take this route.
