Calling for a ceasefire means you want peace.
It means you desire some sort of civil agreement between the Israelis and Palestinian people that doesn’t include war.
It means that you want Hamas to return the hostages, surrender, and be destroyed since they are the ones who started and are perpetuating this war.
It means you want to find some sort of way to move forward.
Even if that means Israel finishing the war that Hamas started.
But that can’t possibly be what you want.
Especially when, in the same breath, you utter sentences like “you don’t get to choose how we resist.”
If you believe October 7th, and every other previous war that Hamas, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad has waged on Israel is justified resistance, fine.
Then you want war.
And if that’s what you want, own it.
If you do this (which took place in New York on October 8th, 2023 before Israel responded):
You can’t also do this:
So the question for you is very simple.
Which one is it?
What do you want?
If a ceasefire is truly what you want, my father in-law, South African MP Kenneth Meshoe, along with many others, has a pretty straightforward proposal for you, as he laid out in parliament the other day.
If resistance is what you want, then prepare for continuing war. Take the mask off and be the enemy you so clearly want to be.
But whatever you do; for the love of all that is true and just, be honest.
Thank you for this.
Absolutely perfectly said. And thank you for sharing your F-I-L comments, it feels like we are in the upside down and his words were a balm.
